From George Washington to Joe Biden, dogs have always been a beloved part of life in the White House. Many U.S. presidents have had canine companions that charmed the public, offering a glimpse into their lives beyond politics.

George Washington, the first president, had several hounds, including a dog named Sweet Lips. One of his dogs once got away with a banquet ham - Mrs. Washington was not amused!

Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Scottish Terrier, Fala, became a national icon, so famous that he even had his own secretary!

John F. Kennedy’s family had several dogs, with Charlie, a Welsh Terrier, being a favorite.

Lyndon B. Johnson’s Beagles, named Him and Her, were also notable, with one famously being lifted by its ears in a controversial photo. Yikes!

Richard Nixon’s dog, Checkers, made headlines during his political career after Nixon mentioned him in a famous speech, saying, “Regardless of what they say about it, we’re gonna keep him.”

More recently, George W. Bush’s Scottish Terriers, Barney and Miss Beazley, were adored, with Barney even starring in his own holiday videos.

Barack Obama’s Portuguese Water Dogs, Bo and Sunny, were playful additions to the First Family…

German Shepherd fan, Joe Biden, has had problems with his dogs at the White House, the stressful environment led to biting incidents.

But he’s not the first with this problem, there is a long history of dogs biting at the White House. Franklin D. Roosevelt's dog, attacked UK Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald: he tore his pants off!

From playful pups to loyal companions, dogs have long been a comforting presence in the world of politics, reminding us that even presidents need a furry friend by their side.
